12 Days of Christmas Day 7

Happy Sunday, good people of the blogosphere! There were only three entries yesterday so, by default, those people win copies of The Abigale Chronicles - Book 3. It's Abigale and Emmett in a magical realm of fairies, dragons, and an evil prince named Magnus. I hope you all enjoy the heck out of it! The winners are: bashashhazbaz, Becky, and Andrea! Congratulations to you all!

On a side note, bashashhazbaz, I need you to shoot me an e-mail please. Yassabook2012 at gmail dot com. You have two prizes now that I need to get to you but I can't find your contact info anywhere. Thanks!!

On to today's prize! On Sunday, December 16 - Seven people who comment will win an e-copy of The Indie Author's Guide to: Building a Great Book

To enter, leave a comment telling me what your biggest struggle as an Indie author has been as far as publishing goes.

Good luck everyone! This is one of those books you'll wish you'd had from the beginning of your indie journey!

Well, that's all for today, folks! Until next time, WRITE ON!

  1. Wow, where to start? For me, as a children's author, it has been reaching my target audience. I try to use social media and am working on reaching out the schools, libraries, etc. But, all in all I have a tough time connecting with my target audience and am continually looking for ways to accomplish this. Thanks for the great question. I hope you get plenty of responses as I would love to hear what people have to say.

    1. You write children's books. Your target audience may not be whom you believe them to be. Do you gear your marketing toward children or do you reach out to those stressed-out mothers who want a good moral lesson for their kids and something to read aloud at bedtime? I market to preteens and their parents. Online, I'm more likely to reach the parents and market that way. It's offline where I can go talk to the kids and get them interested. I'm sort of a goofball and kids tend to gravitate toward me anyway. It makes it easier. Try talking to a local bookstore and seeing if they have a children's event coming up. See if they'll let you set up a table or participate in the activities somehow. Just an idea. Best of luck! Thanks for the comment!

  2. Thank you so much for the second Abigale book, Jo! I'm looking forward to reading the series.

As an indie author, I feel very lucky to have found Solstice Publishing, a small, independently own publishing company. I had the privelage of pitching my book to them a couple of years ago at the MuseItUp online writer's conference. I've been with Solstice ever since.

The hardest part of being an Indie author for me is letting people know my books are out there. Marketing is my achille's heal, and I struggle everyday to determine what would be best to introduce myself to new readers.

  3. I am not publishing my books yet, but I will admit that I was going to publish a cookbook of mine and became a little bit confused with the Kindle upload interface on Amazon. I know if I'd spent some time on it, I would have figured it out though.

I know that once I do start publishing, letting the world know these books are available and gaining interest in them (i.e. marketing) will be the hard part.

  4. Couldn't comment yesterday - but my biggest problem right now is focus. Getting myself focused. Of course, trying to do that around the holidays is a blueprint for failure... :-)

  5. I think my biggest problem is figuring out good marketing strategies without overwhelming the people around me, and finding time to actually market my books.

    1. I'm adding you to the group on FB. Marketing shouldn't be so damned difficult and, I believe, if we band together in small groups, we can accomplish more! Thanks for the comment, Beth!
