12 Days of Review Requests - Day One

Happy Monday, and welcome to the 12 Days of Review Requests fun here on the Jo Michaels blog! We're gonna kick off this event in style. If you missed the opening post from yesterday, be SURE and check it out here. It has the Rafflecopter entry form for the Kindle HD6. Each day, I'll post links to all the books pitched the previous day and a short recap of what I'm looking for you to put in the comments. Then, I'll have the Rafflecopter winner from the previous day, and the entry form for the current one along with the prizes. Let's get going!

BOOKS PITCHED WILL GO HERE.

For your comment (in the comments below NOT in the rafflecopter), pitch your book. Tell me why you think I'll like it, why I should check it out, and a little about the story. DO NOT give me a synopsis. I can get that from Amazon. Make it personal or make it funny. I care not. I'll be grabbing a sample of every book pitched and go from there.

I strongly encourage you to check out the works of your fellow Indie authors. Chat in the comments, talk each other up, make friends!

Book reviewers! You're welcome to play along, too! Meet and greet authors. Get new books to read and review. It only works if we all work together.

If you haven't joined my 2015 Review Team, do that here

**Kindly remember, there's no guarantee your book will be reviewed by me. You will get a purchase if your sample interests me, and I'll try my best to read it. But if I find I can't give it more than 2 stars, I won't write the review. I've had a few I couldn't finish and it led to me not giving a review.**

RAFFLECOPTER FROM PREVIOUS DAY WILL APPEAR HERE WITH WINNERS

Now, up for grabs on day one is a HUGE prize pack of books from author Liz C. Long, and Toni Lesatz. Be sure and thank these generous ladies!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Good luck!

Well, that's all for today, folks! Until next time, WRITE ON!

  1. This is a story about truth.

The truth about what your family can do to and for you, and how you find yourself amidst the expectations of everyone else.

The truth about friendships and how sometimes the family you choose is just as important as the family you don't.

The truth about the people who push you to acknowledge the secrets in your heart you're too scared to examine.

The truth about the darkness that lives in us all, and the real consequences of doing what’s right.

And most importantly, that everyone has their own version of the truth.

Bound by Duty is not another story centered around a love triangle. Its heroine is eighteen and has a tendency to act like it. It will model the best friendships and worst life circumstances. Toss in magic powers, a prophecy and a betrothal…now, you’ve got a great way to spend a weekend.

  2. Can you tell the story of Snow White if the princess is a prince? The huntsman a huntress instead? Shadows on Snow is a new twist on a centuries old tale filled with magic, the fight between good and evil, and the power of true love. How can one who's closed her heart to the world fight past her demons to save not only two kingdoms, but herself as well?

"Soon I would either be dead, or a princess. I wasn’t sure which terrified me more."

  4. Life is a series of moments.
One moment you’re goofing around with your best friends…
The next, you’re running for your life.
One moment you’re the cheerleader, the quarterback's girlfriend, the IT girl…
    The next, you’re lost.
One moment the muggy, summer night is perfect…
    And then the storm hits.
People change. Lives are lost. Love is tested.
    A moment.
That’s all it takes to change your world forever.
How do you get back to normal when normal is gone?

  6. This is a story about roots and the influence of homeland.

The savagely beautiful landscape of the Mediterranean island of Corsica is the background.

‘The House at Zaronza’ is based on a true story that came to light only recently. A packet of love letters was found walled up in the attic of a Corsican house. They were written in the 1890s by the village schoolmaster to a young woman, the daughter of a bourgeois family who lived there.

The star-crossed lovers meet in secret but fate – and the strict social codes of Corsica – are against them.

The story follows Maria, the young woman, as she reconciles herself to life’s disappointments and goes to nurse on the Western Front during World War I.

Maria has a deep attachment to her native Corsica, and especially to her village, Zaronza. She is a product of her environment, even if she is sometimes a victim of it.

The ending might surprise you! It’s not the predictable one.

  9. It wasn’t all that long ago that conventional wisdom taught us not to talk to strangers online. “You’ll get murdered,” our mothers warned, sure that no one could ever be who they said they were on the Internet. Then Internet dating hit the scene, and finding love online became the ultimate taboo of all.

It was during those early days of online dating when Chloe first made the decision to plunge into uncharted waters, despite the fears expressed by her own overly opinionated Asian mother and the taunts made by her closest friends. She was sure this path could lead her to the love she was searching for—if she could just filter through the potential murderers, pathological liars and perverts first.

Readers are calling it a “fun read that reminds you dating is always more hilarious from the outside looking in,” complete with moments so cringe worthy you’ll find yourself hiding from the pages, afraid to find out what happens next. Thankfully, there are a few hidden gems—the men who almost make this whole online dating adventure seem at least somewhat worthwhile—and this is exactly why you will hang on to the very last page, infused with Chloe’s hope that “the one” just might be out there yet.

  11. Graham Hope is single for the first time in decades. No wife, no fancy house and no kids. Except when they want something.

How will Graham cope with this new-found single status? Will he maintain his relationship with his children? Will his single friends take him under their wing? Will he find somewhere new to live?

More importantly, will Graham ever have sex again?

‘Six Months to Get a Life’ follows Graham’s journey from despair and a little anger, through opportunity and hope, to eventually… you will have to read the book to find out.

Although the novel is a work of fiction, the emotions displayed by the principal characters will be familiar to anyone who has experienced the break-up of a long-term relationship. Hurt, despair, anger and trepidation are interspersed on more optimistic days with hope, excitement and feelings of a new beginning.

With the book being described by beta readers as a cross between Nick Hornby and Notting Hill, and the principal character being likened to a male Bridget Jones, readers are sure to find something in this book to smile about.

‘Six Months to Get a Life’ is my debut novel. It is arguably the best debut novel I have ever written.

  15. Moonlight is different: its heritage is the Japanese graphic novel genre. It is a fantasy YA romance which is tender, tragic, magical and which - hopefully - holds the reader in suspense as to the outcome. Opinions of readers have varied widely, but most have been very favourable. Because it was originally planned as a graphic novel it is a quick read, barely novella length.

I suspect you would prefer I don't do this, but this is my first time ever in this event or any like it. So, here is the short blurb which I think is a helpful further description, but you will also find it on Amazon. "Moonlight is a fantasy romance set in modern Japan. Two young teenagers, Tadao and Yuzuki, pledge their love in the face of imminent separation. Can they honour their promise to meet again as adults? Can they overcome an impossible challenge to achieve happiness together? The story includes elements of tragedy and magic, and Yuzuki's little cat, Miss Moonbeam, holds the key."

  16. Why are strangers suddenly appearing in a sleepy North Carolina town asking about Lee Harvey Oswald? What do they have to do with widow Olivia Roberts? Why is her neighbor and friend Bill Horton so dead set against her traveling to Dallas, Texas? When she journeys with Bill from her North Carolina home to Dallas in search of answers to questions from November 22, 1963 she learns more than she ever expected.
“View from the Sixth Floor: An Oswald Tale” is a story of “what-ifs”? What if the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 was a conspiracy? What if accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald was innocent? What if someone knew the truth and could prove it? What if someone you trusted turned out to be hiding a secret so big it could change history?
This is a tale of friendship, love, political intrigue, and murder that proves passion can be found at any age.

  17. When I was a teenager, I was fascinated by Bram Stoker's Dracula. The thought of a love so powerful that it survived even death really struck home. As a child of divorce, love seemed fragile, too easy to fall out of. I wanted to believe, NEEDED to believe, that love could be strong and beautiful, a bond between two people to last the test of time.

I grew into adulthood, married, and started writing. I've always known that my first book would be a book about vampires and that the major theme would be an all powerful, all encompassing love.

    Two things happened.

First, my marriage was an unhappy one. I couldn't write the story I wanted to write because my own experiences with love were to painful to draw from. The story floundered.

Second, Twilight was released and vampires were everywhere!

I put my book away and stopped thinking about writing. Fast forward a few years. I'm divorced and much better off. I met the man of my dreams. I mean, this is the kind of man that I can devote myself to, the kind of man who is deserving of an all encompassing, life defining love. Two years into our relationship and I'm still falling in love with him.

He encouraged me to finish my book and take the steps to get it published.

Funny thing. As I was writing, my characters became less and less concerned about telling their love story. They knew they were in love. They didn't feel the need to flaunt it. They were way more concerned about solving the mysteries I presented them and staying alive throughout all the danger I threw their way.

"Facade" is not the book I set out to write. It's not just a love story. It's got mystery, action and adventure, suspense...and of course, my heart and soul thrown into it.

  18. "The ABCs of Dinkology: Life" and "The ABCs of Dinkology: Time In-Between" are the first two parts in the Saga of Max Dinkman, or, as my publisher calls it, "The Max Dinkman Chronicles." The story is a love letter to comic books and pop culture. It's also a look at the changing age that was late 1999. 19. When Kiva leaves her drug-smuggling husband to start a new life in a mouse-infested farmhouse, she thinks no one from her old life will be able to find her there. But just about everyone does — including her daughter who ran away four years ago, her best friend who pulls her back into illegal activities, and the captain of the smuggling boat who hasn’t been paid.

Can she reunite with her daughter, quit being quite such a screw-up, and possibly find true love while pursued by assorted bad guys?

Of Mice and Money is a humorous romp, a mother-daughter story, a thriller of sorts, and a figuring-out-what's-really-important-in-your-life story. My idea was that it would be a Donald E. Westlake book with a female protagonist, but that female protagonist, Kiva, didn't totally agree with that plan.

  20. Hi Jo,

I'm sorry if this pops up again. I tried to comment earlier and I'm not seeing it now, so I wanted to try again. :-) So here's my pitch:

How far would you go to save humanity? Your friends and family? Yourself?

"One life will make the difference." Macey Holsinger has heard that promise for as long as she can remember. But it hasn't saved anyone yet.

Macey lives in a world ravaged by disease. Most of humanity has been decimated by it. The government is desperate, stopping at nothing to find a cure.

In then end, Macy is left with only one question: How far is she willing to go in the name of the cure.

The Cure is one of my favorite books, but I may or may not be a little bias. :-)

Again, I apologize if this posts twice. Please remove it if it does. Thanks again for the opportunity! :-)

Though the novel touches on darker aspects of human emotion, it also brings to light the strength and courage we all have within us. For Evangeline, that means finding the strength to forgive herself, and face a new life with new friends who see past the accident, to the girl who longs to put the pieces back together.

Upon turning seventeen and receiving no mark from the Lord, she believes freedom is finally within her grasp. Unfortunately, she is wrong. The Kingdom has been fooled. She is marked by an angel of light and one of the fallen dark ones. Solara is God’s chosen, and with her birth, the new covenant made with mankind is made manifest.

Solara also longs for love, strong enough to last a lifetime, and beyond. Riven loves her. But is one of the fallen prophesied to betray the chosen. Can she trust him? Love him? Prophesy states that she is the key. The fate of humanity rests with her decision. She alone will determine whether the doors of Heaven or the gates of Hell open upon the Earth.

But how can a normal girl, who has been raised with no knowledge of either side, make such a decision? And how can she turn away from finally tasting those things she has craved for so long.
